Valentine’s Day is such a fun holiday to celebrate with kids. It’s a great way to celebrate love in our family. We talk about loving each other every day, but to me, it’s fun to have a day all about love. I have two little girls that love everything pink, heart shaped and covered in glitter. So they get pretty excited about Valentine’s Day decorations and treats. We always do special things like kicking off the day with a Valentine’s surprise and breakfast. We make pink milk and share hand made Valentine’s with each other. This year, we’ll be getting something very special to love right before Valentine’s Day – a new baby!

Since I may be coming home from the hospital with the baby just days before Valentine’s Day, it’s important to me that I prepare something for my other 3 children ahead of time. I decided to go with a “Valentine’s Basket” theme this year. It will keep me organized, look adorable and be all set to go before the baby arrives, so that morning I can just pop it on the table and celebrate!

I have two little chocolate lovers in the house, so delicious Hershey’s treats were a key ingredient in the basket. My kids get really excited each year when the find the basket the Easter Bunny leaves. So why not take the basket theme on over to Valentine’s Day? Along with treats in the basket, I included some sweet little notes throughout the basket with reasons why I love them. I hope to make this Valentine’s Day even sweeter for my littlest loved ones with this surprise basket.
DIY Valentine’s Baskets for Kids with a Message of Love

The Basket: I found these neat little red wood crates in the Dollar Spot at Target. Then I used a Sharpie, red glitter heart stickers and some gold glitter washi tape to decorate the basket and write their names.

What’s in the basket:

Candy: Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar Valentine’s Hershey’s Kisses KitKat MinisReese’s Peanut Butter Heart Hershey’s Kisses Brand 1.45 oz Solid Milk Chocolate  Jolly Rancher Heart Lollipops

Non Candy: For non candy surprises in the basket, I added a Valentine’s Day book, pencil and heart stickers. I also found some cute Valentine’s Day themed tissues in the Dollar Spot at Target.

Messages of Love: I made some little hearts that say “I love you because”, printed and cut them out. Then I filled a bunch out for the kids and hid them throughout the basket. I can’t wait for them to dig them out and then we can read them together. Download (free) “I Love You Because” notes by clicking here. You can check out more fun ideas for Valentine’s Day by visiting Celebrate with Hershey’s.
